A rather obscure 60ties band with great appeal to many collectors, The Clockwork Oranges actually appeared to be formed by the members of the Italian underground band The Jaguars, who had just changed their name into I Pooh.
Nevertheless, nobody declared to be involved in the group, even many years after its existence, and inquiries and questions about the band were always avoided.
It is no surprise that they still are subject of intense debate, hence making their only single “Ready Steady” a very rare, desired and expensive collector’s item.
The 2 tracks on the record are English translations of Equipe 84 from 1965; "Prima di cominciare" by Antonio Amurri and Armando Sciascia and on the B-side “Notte senza fine" by E. Chelotti and G. Russo.
The French researcher Michel Bands claims a wrong picture of the I Pooh on the German sleeve. He thinks it concerns an English formation that already existed and was part of Clockwork Oranges; members were singer guitar player Terry Clark (former The Herd), bassist Brian Curtis, guitarist Harvey Hinsley and Mick Underwood on drums.
Take a closer look at the Greek release, showing a totally different picture of the band. In the sixties, other bands would have used the same name.
Only recently, rumours popped up that the voice on the Clockwork Oranges single belongs to Demetrio Stratos, well known as the singer of the Italian progressive band I Ribelli.
Their true identity will remain a mystery!
