The Mascots was a Swedish pop group formed in Stockholm in 1963. Like many other Swedish groups during that time, they were heavily inspired by British pop and Mersey Beat. The group had their first hit with the song "Baby, Baby" in the fall of 1964. After their first album "Your Mascots", on the second album ELLPEE, was an experimental song "I Want to Live" that shows that Sweden was very early in the psychedelic music. At the same time, The Mascots were offered a record deal in England, but there was 1 condition: they had to change their name in The Swedish Design, which they refused. The Mascots last attempt to break through abroad was with the single "Moreen", released in 1968 on ABC Records in New York. The group made their last gig in August 1969, and the members then formed the political theater NJA group, which later came to be Fria Proteatern (an independent theater).
