RARE BEAT - GARAGE ROCK AND PSYCHEDELIC
THE MISUNDERSTOOD
Records are not for sale - For your viewing pleasure only

Anti-war and rebellious, there at the very beginning of the "Hippie" culture and the rise of psychedelia, not the floaty, ambient stuff - this was no holds barred hard edge psychedelic rock with stomping bass lines, screeching guitar with plenty of feedback, powerful and fast drumming and a vicious vocal style. Cited as one of psychedelia's finest bands, The Misunderstood originated from California and were discovered by a young John Peel. John Peel continued to champion them all the way through their truncated and sadly short career. In 1966 they recorded six songs whilst in the U.K., the first classic single "I Can Take You To The Sun" was released promptly in 1966 but the band had to wait over two years before Fontana decided to release this single from those recordings. Just as they were on the edge of gaining some underground public recognition the band were called up to the Vietnam war, they had no option but to return to the U.S.A. Singer Rick Brown fled to the flower-power hippie community forming at Haight Ashbury in an attempt to dodge the draft but was captured, remarkably he escaped and fled to India where he lived as a bhuddist monk for seven years in an ashram. There was then some bizarre incidents surrounding a secret ruby mine that he had discovered, Rick was forced to live a fugitive life in the shadows, always keeping one step ahead of the authorities.
