The Action were formed in Kentish Town in 1963 - Reg King, Roger Powell, Mike Evans and Alan King, with Peter Watson joining them later in ’64. They had grown up together, gone to school together and played soul music together – working-class, north London boys with a passion for music, clothes and football. Evidence of the bond which existed between band members is clear from the way in which they constructed harmonies, the sensitivity of their arrangements and above all the innovation and energy of their music. The Action thrived on being a peoples band, who together with their audience shared a deep love and respect for black American dance music.
