RARE BEAT - GARAGE ROCK AND PSYCHEDELIC
BO STREET RUNNERS
Records are not for sale - For your viewing pleasure only

They began as a nameless Rhytmn and Blues group influenced by Bo Diddley and one of his songs, 'I'm a Roadrunner Honey'. They took the part of this song as their first name; The Roadrunners. In the second half of 1963 they had an identity crisis when it became evident that there was another band operating under the 'Road Runners' name. This Liverpool band seemed to be much further up the road of 'fame'. So they choose a new name The Bo Street Runners with "Bo" from "Bo Diddley" and Runners from 'The Road Runners" instead of road they changed the word into Street. The Bo-Street-Runners first 45rpm record came early in 1964 as a response to their fans at their weekly residency at The Railway Hotel in Harrow who wanted a momento of the gig. The band picked four numbers from their programme that were popular with their audience. The studio chosen to record the EP was that of R.G. Jones of Morden, SW London who had its own label 'Oak Records'. After some unsuccesfull records and some line-up changes (for a very short period with Mick Fleetwood), founder John Dominic had enough of the ups and downs and left the group. He was replaced by Mike Patto. They tried to hit the charts with a cover of the Beatles' song "Drive My Car", unfortunatelly it was no success and The Bo Street Runners quit around June 1966. Mike Patto became the new vocalist of the group Timebox, Spooky Tooth and many others. He died of cancer in 1979. Mick Fleetwood became very famous in his group Fleetwood Mac.
