THE MOTIONS

The Motions was a Dutch band, established in 1964 by Rudy Bennett and Robbie Van Leeuwen from Ritchie & the Ricochets. The band played on The Rolling Stones concert on August the 8th 1964 in Kurhaus. The first single from The Motions "It's Gone" came out in December 1964. The first album, Introduction To The Motions, is still a classic in the Dutch 'Nederbiet'. Van Leeuwen left the band on March the 1st 1967 to start his own band: Shocking Blue. He was replaced by Gerard Romeijn from the other Dutch band Tee Set. It seemed that with the departure of Van Leeuwen, the band lost his important composer but newcomers Sieb Warner and Romeijn also compose and wrote many high level songs. The album "Impressions of Wonderful" was a child of it's time, The Flower Power and it was called the Dutch Sgt. Peppers in the teen magazine 'Hitweek'. In 1968 Romeijn and newcomer Jan Vennik were caught for a drugs delict and imprisoned. Sieb Warner left the band in May 1969 and went to play with The Golden Earrings. In june 1969 The Motions tried to conquer the US. The song Freedom received much airplay but a breakthrough in the US failed. In June 1970 the last album of The Motions "Sensation" was only available through the supermarkets of Simon de Wit in The Netherlands. A few months later they launched their last single for Negram before to quit. All band members went their own way but will meet each other on different occasions. Rudy Bennett also had a small solo carreer.
