The Wallace Collection were a Belgian rockband composed by different musicians with different musical backgrounds. It was Sylvain Vanholme and Freddy Nieuland who giving the songs a poppy sound. The rest of the band was classical trained and played more than 20 different instruments. That's why they never used studio musicians for their recordings. In 1969 they released their most succesfull album "Laughing Cavalier". It was recorded at The Abbey Road Studio's and became so popular thanks to the Number 1 hit "Daydream" that conquered the hitlists in more than 20 countries. They toured throughout the world with a sold-out concert at the Maracana-Stadion in Rio for more than 40.000 fans. In 1970 they composed the music for the French movie "La Maison". The songs "Serenade" and "Dear Beloved Secretary" became small hits. The year after they made the music for the films "Un Beau Monstre" and "Les Intrus" with Charles Aznavour as the leading part. The songs "Stay" and "My Way Of Loving You" are forthcoming from these movies. The songs were mainly popular in France and Italy. Long touring and the different musical backgrounds made it very difficult for the band, thats why they split in 1972. Sylvain Van Holme scored new world hits with the Two Man Sound and was producer for different Belgian artists like The Machines, The Kids, Gorki and Jo Lemaire. In 1981, Drummer Freddy Nieuland, released an album with title Wallace Collection. It contained the two singels "Tax Vobiscum" and "Take Life With A Grin". There is less known about this album because it was released without the other original band members, therefore it was not listed in their own discography. The group came together a few times to play at different festivals in the 90's and 2000. On january the 10th 2008, founder, drummer and leadsinger Freddy Nieuland died from an illness. Producer of the first album, David Mackay, said a few years ago that George Martin said "Laughing Cavalier" was the best album from 1969.
