The Herd were formed at the height of the Mod boom in 1965, joining the scores of groups playing rock and R&B around the London clubs. They quickly made a name for themselves as a tight and exciting on-stage unit, and particular note was taken of both the photogenic good looks and guitar prowess of Frampton. His previous band, The Preachers, had minor succes in the underground scene. The record label Parlophone dropped The Herd after several unsuccessful singles, and they subsequently signed to Fontana. Their greatest success came with "From The Underworld" and "I Don't Want Our Loving To Die", a Number 5 UK hit single in 1968. After some line-up changes and a few unsuccesfull songs, Frampton left to form Humble Pie with Steve Marriott (The Small Faces). Taylor, became a disc jockey and by the late 1970s, Andy Bown had become a member of the UK rockers, Status Quo. Peter Frampton had a very successfull solo career.
